In January 1991, East Brisbane Water Neighbourhood Centre advertised for a community development worker with Brian Cochrane appointed in February of that year. Brian ran the centre from a room which was donated by the Christian Bookshop as well as a room in his home. In 1992, Brian and the newly formed Residents Action Group began to lobby for a permanent building for the Centre.
In 1995, the Kincumber Multipurpose Centre was built and officially opened on 25 May 1996. Staffed by Brian and a group of volunteers, the centre commenced providing services for our community and connecting with other local organisations.
Since then, Kincumber Multipurpose Centre (renamed Kincumber Neighbourhood Centre) has provided community members with a space to meet, learn, connect and find support. The centre hosts childrens' and adults' activities and groups and provide spaces for the University of the 3rd Age, Coastcare Counselling, Aunties and Uncles and Seniors Computer Club Central Coast. Rooms are also available for hire for events and we are always on the lookout for new and exciting facilitators and courses.
